1985 Midwestern college Reunion Held in Denison.

mw-bugAs you know Midwestern College closed in 1970. Fifteen years later during the summer of 1985 Marilyn Leahigh Wright organized a reunion of former students. Though a few years before the oft quoted movie line “If you build it he will come,” was first spoken, approximately 200 arrived in the small Iowa town of Denison.

What a hoot their college years must have been to draw so many former students to reunite with friends attempting to remember themselves. The former Midwestern College campus is now occupied by the Denison Job Corps which operates a state job training center; however student memories of their time at Midwestern are anchored in richly told stories of days gone by.

Many visitors were quick to note changes fondly recalling the now closed Wishbone, Candy Kitchen and Red Lantern a favorite watering hole. Quoted in a news article Mrs. Wright, herself a resident of Denison, told a reporter from the Des Moines Register that her warmest memory of those years was the community welcome being fantastic.
